In the fall of 2010 voters approved a referendum that enabled the City to acquire property for a beachfront park at 839 S. Atlantic Avenue.
In the spring of 2011, the City selected a local engineering firm, Zev Cohen & Associates, Inc. (ZCA), to design the park:
Zev Cohen & Associates, Inc. (ZCA) Team:
DJ Design, Inc. - Architect
Planning Solutions Corp. - Public Information
Coastal Tech - Coastal Engineering
Dickens & Associates, Inc. Electrical & Lighting
McMillan Land Surveying, Inc. - Land Surveying
The public was engaged in a collaborative design of the park to ensure that when the park is constructed it will reflect the community's vision. The public was invited to Discover, Imagine, & Choose a conceptual plan for the park.
The preferred conceptual plan was chosen through this 4-month period of open collaboration with the community, culminating in sign-off by the City Commission on September 6, 2011. The design team immediately began to Create (design) the chosen plan. The completed design and construction documents were approved by the City Commission on March 6, 2012.
A local contractor, Saboungi Construction, was awarded the bid on May 1, 2012. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site on May 28, 2012. The notice to proceed was issued on May 30, 2012.
Ormond Beach's Andy Romano Beachfront Park is now OPEN to the community.
